I’ve been think about starting a non-public section of this blog where I would share more personal information, pictures, and some of my more snarky opinions. Access would be given on an individual basis to people I know personally. Do any of you have an opinion on that idea?

As a complete stranger and semi avid reader, I love reading the family adventures, the photos of where you visit, it's very interesting expecially for those of us pretty certain we'll never get out that way.
BUT i totally understand the privicy side
Please... initially that was your whole reasoning for starting the blog.
Who would have known it would become so hugely popular with "outsiders."
At the risk of being found offensive, I'm much more interested in the family stuff. What you've been doing has been a huge help to bridge the gap, but the day to day quirks that don't make it on the videos or snapped by the camera would be wonderful.
Side note - there are only so many hours in the day, and I know how time intensive blogs are, being that my own is nearly three weeks behind in expereinces I'd like to share. So, I understand the intense amount of time they take and will be grateful for whatever your time allows.
I like your blog a lot- I think the reason is because your personal style is very entertaining. Last night I was watching disc 11 and told Jason that they are the most entertaining home videos I've ever seen- same applies to your blog. I really like the family stories and pics (I love the Shutterfly account) and I of course LOVE your snarky comments.
I'm all for a more private family only site.
I don't like the idea of putting so many family details online, which is why there aren't any on my site. I don't like the absolute openness of the internet.
There are a ton of pictures and stories that I would like to write about and share, but not with the freak down the street who might decide he wants a piece of my girls.
and friends too of course.
I solved this privacy problem; I created a blog with access only to myself. :)
im all for it. I know that there are some things you just CANT"t say to the world at large.
i understand the privacy issue. that was a big reason i resisted starting my blog. but, for me the essence of blogging is public discourse. a password-protected website for family is a fine idea, but i wouldn't call it a blog... technicality, i guess.
If the public aspects keeps you from blogging err... to your full capacities... I mean if it makes you hold back stuff and you dont like it then yeah, sure make it private for those who really care.
I'm a regular reader, reading your blog is one of my time-killing routines, and yeah sometimes I have asked myself how appropriate it was to read about other people's life and meddle with my comments.
But it all comes down to you, your blog visitors are people full of good intentions (I guess), and if you enjoy the public feedback, you could keep it public...
I used to enjoy more your posts about general, non personal topics, you know braindumps and your experiences with the lebanese society, but it seems that with time, your blog is changing into a tool to keep your family and friends updated.
as I would get acsess (how on earth do you spell that) to the private section I don't mind. It also seems that people who don't know you aren't interested in what would go on the private section in the first place...give it a try and check out how it works...

access? hm...where on earth are my dictionaries?dictionarys? no...how about I go shoot myself...Karin
Yeah my wife wants to have access to your "private" blog. I am not sure what this means? Would and old friends wife who you have only met briefly one time qualify?
My favortite posts of yours have been the pictures of archetecture on your outings.
This is why I chose LJ over blogger... friends-only posts option! So yeah I think it would solve some of your blogging problems. I'd be interested if you want to let me read it :)
Speakign of which things are crazy for me but I'd still like to see you guys before I leave. When would be good for you?
Err sorry the words "family only" just registered in my overworked head. I can respect that totally, go for it.
