Useful, yet not overtly geeky

I’ve decided that I need to buy a watch. Generally speaking, I hate watches, rings and so forth, but there’s a little problem. Mary Ann is getting a bit tired of me asking her what time it is.

The problem is that while I’m at work, I can just look at my computer if I want to know the time. This is quite convenient as I am generally looking at the computer anyway, so I just have to divert my eyes about 3 degrees downward. That’s the kind of effort I think is appropriate for finding out what time it is.

Somewhat inconveniently for both of us, when I am not around a computer, I am generally around Mary Ann. As she already owns a watch, she then inheirits the time-announcer functions.

All this brings me around to the watch-buying project. I think I’m leaning toward the one on the left. What do you folks think?

I prefer the one on the right. A metal band is more durrable.

Ok, I'm an idiot. We prefer the same one on the left. Sometimes I hate my brain.

I love the look of the watch... ThinkGeek is right 'stylish' is definately theh adjective to use! But a watch that doubles as an MP3 player ... who is really going to use their watch to play 5 hours of music or to store other data? Okay I'll give you James Bond... but he doesn't actually have to pay for his gadgets.

What about either of these watches:

This ones cool, but I don't think you're within the 2000 mile radius necessary for the watch to keep perfect time ... which is too bad, cause it's a great looking watch - and it's always right!

By the way did you know you can get watches that are two-way communicators (just $30) OR have a built in TV ($150)! Craziness!

just get enough clocks in the house...i check the VCR the Microwave, the Sat reciever or the phone if I want to know the time....not a single watch or "real" clock inmy house. Doesn't your cell tellyou what time it is?

Save the money...

i think the only way you should buy that watch is if your can get wireless earphones for it. And if you are going to be wearing it only around your wife, what message are you sending by buying one with headphones?

Very cool! I like the one on the left as well.
Jason (M) he will be listening to Harry POtter on his watch while Mary Ann listens to it on their hand held thingy (if stella hasn't broken it yet)

yeah mp3 watch is cool, but I have a feeling but moving you wrist around the speaker cord can get caught in all sorts of things.
I'd prefer a sturdy small 20GB mp3 player with 20 hour battery time (these are the specs of a sony model I'd like to buy).

I would go with a sun dial that has a built in abacus.

a medel band always looks good, the leather will fade and crack. But do you need a watch or a MP3 player? If I was getting a watch I would get a watch. Once you start adding thing, thats too much that can break.

I've read a couple of reviews on this model, and apparently the sound quality isn't that great, particularly when you use the earphones that come with it and it only plays mp3s - no other format. Also, if you wait a month or so, the 512MB version will be out.

Is it a watch you want, or do you just want the ability to tell time and listen to music? In the case of the latter, you'd get more bang for your buck by getting an iPod or other player, because they usually have a clock function built-in, and you can get 40 gigs of storage, as opposed to the 256MB that comes with this watch.

Okay, that ends the common sense portion of my comment. What I really think: It's a cool little gadget (one of the few non-ugly watch-mp3 combinations on the market), and if they would ever get around to making a women's version, I'd buy it in a second.
