Vital and critical update

The peppershakers in our cafeteria are full of cinnamon. The salt shakers do indeed have salt in them, but in the year and a half I’ve been going to this cafeteria, I have yet to see any pepper whatsoever. Apparently, cinnamon is the preferred spice for Lebanese food. Can anyone offer a better explination?

I have found that people routinely use what Americans call "allspice" instead of pepper. When I pointed this out to my Lebanese husband, he said: but it's called "sweet pepper" in French, so it's pepper, right. WRONG! I, too, have missed pepper. Go to Smith's in Hamra and you can buy lots!

I have never heard of allspice, and i liked the Spice Girls.

I think the moron who buys the supplies has goofed up and nobody has noticed.
First time I hear about sprinkling cinammon on your food, lebanese or whatnot.

LOL. I believe you've run into bhar 7elo, "sweet pepper", as opposed to black pepper!

but Sweet pepper should be "Paprika" as in ellpepper and not cinnamon...right?
