Dreams

I'm a fairly ambitious person, and I've been fortunate enough to be able to achieve a reasonable amount of my goals thus far. The thing is I've noticed that very few of my dreams have turned out to be as good as I had visualized them to be when I was working towards them. My marriage is one major exception to this, as it has turned out far better than I had originally thought.

So what about you folks? Have your dreams turned out to be disillusioning once achieved?

Too often, which led me to the brilliant idea of not EVER building anything up with expectations -- which manages to drain all the fun out of anticipating something. So there's no way to win, it seems.

Feh.

I agree, things always look shiner from a distance.

Yes and no. When I think of how much I had to "stick to it" to reach a goal, I do feel happy about it. However, I now have my Ph.D. and, well, I just don't feel nearly as "smart" as I thought I would feel!

I totally agree with you about marriage -- and kids, too.

I dreamed of having perfect kids, daughters and sons. I tried six times and just can't seem to get the perfect daughter but I only needed to try one time for the perfect son! Dad

the more you want something (and dream about it) the more you'll enjoy it
